What’s In A Name?
“Love, Always Amy….Wait, what? I know you mentioned in a previous post that there were going to be grammar errors in your blog, but c’mon Amy, don’t you know that the comma is supposed to go AFTER the Always?”
True, I guess, but for as long as I can remember (talking middle-school-passing-notes-years here), I always signed off with a heart and then Always Amy. Side note: Please, PLEASE if you still are holding onto one of my notes from that long ago, do me a favor and toss it! No need to embarrass me with my boy-crazy ramblings…
As I struggled for a long time trying to decide what to name this little blog of mine, I came up with many options. The one that I loved the most had another blog that was using a nearly similar name and was going to be covering a lot of the same topics and I just couldn’t bring myself to “copy” her. I knew that even though I was “allowed” to use such a similar name, I would constantly be comparing my blog to hers and making sure that I wasn’t “copying” her style. I wanted this blog to be *mine*. Sure, I will look to bigger and better bloggers to motivate me and give me ideas, but I don’t want to ever not be myself because I am worried that someone thinks I am copying them.
As I worked through more lists of names that I came up with, I noticed that I tended to like short, 2-3 word titles that had alliteration. After posting them in a blogging group that I am a part of, one of the gals suggested Love Always Amy. I don’t believe she included a comma anywhere in there, but as soon as she shared it, I knew it was perfect and that I wanted to add the comma.
By adding the comma after the “Love” and leaving the remaining portion “Always Amy”, I am reaffirming to myself that I am always Amy, no matter whatever other title I am at different stages in my life. I have been a student, a teacher, a player, a coach, a daughter, a mother, an employee, an employer, but through it all I have always been Amy.
